According to the Wisconsin Department of Health & Family Services, in 2007 throughout Wisconsin, 724 people died by suicide; 199 died by homicide. Of the deaths by suicide, 47 percent were due to firearms. Men aged 45-65 comprised 220 of the 724 deaths. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth.

In 2001 Oshkosh averaged 7 deaths.

Oshkosh had 5 teen suicides within a 13-month period, 7 in 24 months.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 15-24 in Wisconsin.

Suicide is 3 times more prevalent than homicide in Wisconsin.

Winnebago County averages over 20 suicides per year by people of all ages.

Most suicides are impulsive acts.

Many millions of hours are spent by survivors trying to cope with their loss. The lives of those left behind…friends, parents, siblings and many others…will never be the same.

Suicide is 2 to 3 times higher for GLBT youth.

Suicide victims are not trying to end their lives…they’re trying to end their pain.

Suicides are preventable, if people get help.

Every person at risk deserves help.
