Suicide Facts:
In 2001 Oshkosh averaged 7
deaths.
Oshkosh had 5 teen suicides within a 13-month period,
7 in 24 months.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among
people ages 15-24 in Wisconsin.
Suicide is 3 times more prevalent than homicide in
Wisconsin.
Winnebago County averages over 20 suicides per year by
people of all ages.
Most suicides are impulsive acts.
Many millions of hours are spent by survivors trying
to cope with their loss. The lives of those left behind…friends,
parents, siblings and many others…will never be the same.
Suicide is 2 to 3 times higher for GLBT youth.
Suicide victims are not trying to end their
lives…they’re trying to end their pain.
